Skylar Gudasz is a songwriter and musician based in Durham.
Skylar Gudasz has an easy way about her as she contemplates the futility of trying to order the world into shapes of convenience. “It’s wild, the ways that humans try to make boundaries out of things,” she says. The subject of this restless, eternal wrangling has been on the singer-songwriter’s mind as she’s watched the world splinter into jagged, conflicted pieces. With her third LP, COUNTRY, Gudasz interrogates borders of land and sea, mind and body: the limit of the lines we draw for ourselves.
"COUNTRY arrives on her own Perseids Records label with an exciting contemporary sound, something like an atmospheric folk/country hybrid with an art pop sensibility." —Bandcamp
"Skylar Gudasz grows throughout the free-flowing COUNTRY... While Blue through The Hissing of Summer Lawns-era Joni Mitchell is a clear vocal and compositional source, Gudasz finds her own balance between narrative and tangential poeticisms, her band pivoting from austere segments to well-orchestrated passages." —The Line of Best Fit
"COUNTRY is almost meditative in its focus, an exercise in getting free from the tangled knots that try to keep people in place." —No Depression
"Nine intimate slices of indie rock, modern folk, and symphonic pop blur the boundaries between sky and earth, water and land, hidden pain and extroverted smile." —Indy Week
